Aromatherapy Essential Oils Guide

By Toby Russell
Learning about aromatherapy essential oils is an important part of learning how aromatherapy can provide a number of benefits.
First, it is important to learn how to find quality aromatherapy essential oils. With the growing popularity of aromatherapy today there are a number of vendors offering aromatherapy essential oils through stores, websites and mail order. It is important to be aware; however, that while essential oils are now quite readily available, not all of the oils you will find for sale are quality.
Quality is an important part of achieving the benefits through aromatherapy essential oils. Poorer quality aromatherapy essential oil have been produced from poor crops and not handled properly. They may also have other oils or even chemicals added to them. As a result they will not have the same therapeutic benefit as true pure aromatherapy oils. In some cases, poorer quality aromatherapy essential oils can even cause harmful problems instead of the therapeutic benefits for which they are intended.
To choose high quality pure aromatherapy essential oils it is important to learn what to look for when shopping for oils. Always avoid oils which indicate they are perfume or fragrance oils. This is an indication the product is not a pure essential oil. Instead, it is most likely a combination of different essential oils and possibly even chemicals.
It is also important to understand that aromatherapy essential oils must be stored properly in order to retail therapeutic benefits. Toward this end they should be stored in dark glass bottles. Clear glass allows light to damage the oils. Never purchase oils sold in clear glass bottles.  Plastic bottles should also be avoided as well. In addition, it’s a good idea to avoid buying essential oils that have dust on the bottles. This is probably an indication they have been on the shelf awhile.
The best aromatherapy essential oil vendors will allow you to test or sample a product before you buy it. Of course, if you are buying online this would be difficult, but the company should still have a way for you to ask questions as needed regarding products.
Finally, always be sure to peruse the prices of the products before you purchase. The prices of aromatherapy essential oils should vary somewhat simply because some essential oils are more expensive than others. Citrus essential oils are less expensive than jasmine, for example. Be aware of essential oil that are all priced the same.
