Inhalation is a good way to get started using aromatherapy oil. In order to utilize this technique you simply need to place one drop of the aromatherapy oil of your choice on a facial tissue. Inhale gently. Using only one drop at a time when you are first experimenting with aromatherapy oil is important to ensure you do not have a reaction to the oil. If there is no sensitivity, you may use 3 or 4 drops for future uses.
Steam inhalation is another great way to utilize the benefits of aromatherapy oil. For this method, you will need to boil 2 cups of water, pour it into a bowl and add several drops of the oil of your choice to the water. Place the bowl about a foot away from your face and inhale gently.
Aromatherapy oil can also be used to freshen your entire household. A few drops of the oil can be placed in numerous locations such as your vacuum bag filter, trash can, etc. To freshen laundry, place a few drops on a tissue and place it in your drawers.
Did you know that aromatherapy oil can also be used as a bug repellant? Several oils such as lavender, citronella and peppermint make fantastic natural insect repellents. Place a few drops of oil on cotton balls and then position the cotton balls around your doorways and windows.
When used in conjunction with a carrier oil, aromatherapy oil is also a great way to relax in the bath or with a massage. For your bath, simply add a few drops of oil per one ounce carrier oil. This blend can then be added to your bath water. For massages, combine a dozen or so drops of essential oil to one ounce carrier oil and gently massage.
